So, on Thursday the 22nd of November 2012, a remarkable event occurred – a laneway in Carlton got shut off from traffic, it filled up with people, the sky went dark, a man in a white suit made a speech, and a film about comic books filled the screen!

Yes, we have premieres in two hemispheres! The first is in Melbourne on Thursday November 22, 2012, in Tyne Street, the laneway next to Readings Bookshop at 309 Lygon Street in Carlton. 8.30 start, speeches and a too-hah at 8.45, and the film begins at 9pm. If it’s raining that night, we have a screen booked in at Cinema Nova.

Our European premiere will be at the Angouleme Comics Festival in France at the beginning of February in 2013. Very exciting!

Melbourne!’.This screening of ‘Bernie’ is before the season of the film officially begins, and all tickets are $15, which is cheaper than usual – good stuff, eh?Linklater is the director who gave us ‘Dazed and Confused’(1993), ‘Before Sunrise’ (1995), ‘Waking Life’(2003) and ‘A Scanner Darkly’(2006).
In ‘Bernie’ he casts Jack Black (who was in Linklater’s ‘School of Rock’ back in 2003) in an adaptation of a true story, as a moustachioed mortician, beloved of his small American town, who gets together with an awful and rich (and really – awfully rich) widow, Shirley MacLaine. What will transpire? Oh, how to find out? Buy a ticket and come along! And please, wear a moustache to the screening – the best one will win a prize!
